You’ve already found that most modern electric stoves have a glass cooktop if you’ve been looking for one. Those with standard coil burners are usually the less costly ones that lack all the bells and whistles. When it comes time to upgrade your electric stove, you’re likely to go for one with a glass cooktop. Below are the tips to repair and maintain your Viking stove from cleaning to cookware.

Cleaning The Stove

Although a stove’s smooth surface makes cleanup smoother, it’s essential to use the right cleaning tools. It’s usually safe to stick to the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions and materials when it comes to your particular model. Cleaning using a moist cloth or paper towel is usually sufficient, and no cleaning agents should be used when the surface is hot. These products will quickly flame and ruin the glass finish, leaving pits and blemishes behind.

Cleaning instruments with abrasive textures, such as steel wool or scrubby sponges, should be avoided. It will scrape your stove’s top, creating crevices that trap food particles. It would detract from the look of your stove and make cleaning it more difficult. When washing your burner, do use a soft cloth or sponge to prevent applying too much air. A cracked stove can be caused by pushing too hard.

Even in what might seem to be common sense, never scrub your stove with a glass cleaner. It contains ammonia, which is too heavy for the stove and can cause surface damage. You can replace the glass cleaner with white vinegar, which is a healthier and natural substitute.

Using The Right Cookware

You can also consult the manufacturer’s suggestions on the best cookware to use on your glass cooktop. It’s essential to ensure that the bottom of your cookware is perfectly smooth. An unevenly heated cooking surface, using old, dented cookware, can affect the stove’s cooking efficiency. It can even grind and rub the surface of your stove, resulting in cuts and scrapes.

For use on a glass cooktop, stainless steel cookware is strongly recommended. Cookware with a heavyweight aluminum or copper bottom is also a good option. Both will leave a stain that looks like bruises and can be quickly cleaned if rubbed up as soon as the cooking is done. On the other hand, a copper bottom kettle will leave a lasting stain on your burner if left to boil dry.

Defective Stove

Accidents do occur. Don’t be concerned if your stove gets cracked or hurt. You won’t have to get a whole new stove. You may remove cooktops made of glass. A skilled appliance repair technician should still fix the stove. Electric stove repair, including stove replacement, can result in personal injuries or property damage if done incorrectly.
